History
The Wake County Firefighter's Association was incorporated in November 1955. It was formed to improve the development and training of firefighting and rescue squad personnel through the dissemination of information, and to increase public awareness and education regarding matters of fire protection. The Association also works to stimulate cooperative efforts among the various firefighting organizations of Wake and surrounding counties.
Association Officers
The Wake County Firefighter's Association exists to serve the needs of firefighters and thus its officers are themselves firefighters, elected by their peers for a one-year term. The Association is led by a President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Chaplain. Click here to see the current board members.
Quarterly Meetings
The Wake County Firefighter's Association hosts dinner meetings for the membership on a quarterly basis. In 2003, we renewed an old tradition of having the meetings at fire stations around the county, thus giving members a chance to become familiar with departments that they might otherwise not get to work with on a regular basis. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the months of February, May, August and November, with November being the annual meeting at which Association officers are elected. Guests at the meetings include vendors, fire service officials and others who present new products and the latest information in the industry.
Training Opportunities
Wake County firefighters have access to one of the most state-of-the-art facilities for practical hands-on training in areas of live firefighting, hazardous materials, and specialized rescue operations. The Wake County Fire/Rescue Training Center is located on eight acres in the southwestern part of the county, and is operated by the Wake County Public Safety Fire/Rescue Training Division.
Critical Incident Stress Debriefing
All too often our emergency responders are asked to mitigate incidents that are highly traumatic and stressful. The Association Chaplain is dedicated to providing confidential spiritual and emotional support to all members in times of need. The Association is constantly working together with Wake County Emergency Management and other organizations in order to provide Critical Incident Stress Debriefing resources to all members and departments in need.
Scholarship Program
The Wake County Firefighter's Association sponsors a scholarship program for Association members and their children. Each year a recipient, chosen by a committee of representatives from the Association, receives a $500 scholarship.
